Accommodation: Hotel Gold River
Our package included a one-night stay at Hotel Gold River. Arriving early at 10 a.m., just as the park opened, we received cards that doubled as room keys. Unfortunately, none of the rooms were ready for check-in, but with our park access, we set off to explore. Our allocated room was spacious, boasting two double beds. While the décor felt a tad dated, we knew we’d spend most of our time in the park anyway.
Tips for Your Visit
- Download the App: Don’t forget to download the app! You’ll need it to prebook breakfast and dinner times. Trust me; it’s worth it to skip the long queues.
- Restaurant Reservations: The restaurant serving breakfast and dinner gets busy. Those with prebooked times get priority seating. Without a reservation, be prepared to wait.
- Average Fare: The food is decent, considering it’s buffet-style dining. Tap water is free, but anything else comes with a price tag.
The Park: PortAventura
Now, let’s dive into the heart of PortAventura—the six themed worlds that await you:
- China: Step into ancient China, where pagodas, dragons, and martial arts adventures come to life.
- Polynesia: Feel the tropical breeze as you explore this Polynesian paradise. Tiki statues, lush vegetation, and exotic vibes await.
- The Wild West: Saddle up and ride into the Wild West. Dusty trails, saloons, and cowboy showdowns create an authentic frontier experience.
- Mediterrània: Immerse yourself in Mediterranean culture. Stroll along charming streets, enjoy coastal views, and savor the flavors of the region.
- Mexico: From Aztec temples to vibrant fiestas, Mexico’s rich heritage unfolds before your eyes. Don’t miss the thrilling rides!
- SésamoAventura: Perfect for little ones, this zone features Sesame Street characters and 11 delightful rides. Splash through Grand Canyon Rapids and Silver River Plume.
Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land
Unfortunately, during our February visit, both Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land were closed. However, if you plan your trip during the right season, here’s what you can expect:
- Caribe Aquatic Park: Perfect for hot days, this water wonderland offers water slides, lazy rivers, and wave pools. It’s a refreshing break from the theme park rides.
- Ferrari Land: Speed enthusiasts, rejoice! Hop on high-speed roller coasters like Shambhala, Dragon Khan, and Tutuki Splash. The Ferrari-themed decor and attractions immerse you in the racing world.
Daily Shows and Parade
PortAventura World hosts about 40 daily shows, ensuring entertainment around every corner. And don’t miss the grand parade at the end of the day—it’s a magical spectacle!
Getting There
By Train
The train is not only the most sustainable way to reach PortAventura World but also officially endorsed for its commitment to the environment. Here’s how to get there by train:
- From Barcelona: You have two main train stations to choose from: Camp de Tarragona or Tarragona. During the summer, you can also reach Salou – PortAventura, but be prepared for a transfer. If you arrive at Camp de Tarragona station, an official Contigo bus will take you directly to your hotel (although availability may be limited during off-peak season in February).
- Outside of Barcelona: Renfe offers Mid-Distance and High-Speed (AVE) trains from various locations on the peninsula. Once you arrive at the train station, you can take a taxi to the park or your hotel.
Tip: When leaving from Tarragona to Barcelona, expect crowded trains—standing room only. It’s a challenge with kids or luggage.
By Car
If you prefer driving, follow these directions:
- Access by Car: PortAventura World is located off the A-7 highway. Enter your starting point, and let the GPS guide you to the resort. If you plan to hire a car, book in advance for availability. GoldCar, the official car hire partner, offers a 10% discount with the code AVENTURA10 when purchasing the Key’n Go pack on their website.
By Airplane
Flying in? Here are your options:
- From Barcelona: El Prat Airport is approximately 1 hour away, while Reus Airport is just 15 minutes away. Take an air-conditioned coach or commuter train from Barcelona to reach PortAventura.
- Camp de Tarragona Station: If you arrive via the AVE (Long-Distance) train, use a bus, taxi, or car hire to complete your journey to the resort.

If you’re not staying overnight at PortAventura, consider these packages:

- Salou: PortAventura, Caribe Park, and Ferrari Land Passes
