We stayed at the Mövenpick Suriwon Hotel in Chiang Mai with our two kids and this is our honest take. Good location, dated rooms, and a chocolate hour that just about does the job.
What To Expect
Mövenpick Suriwon sits in a good spot for families who want to walk to the night markets rather than rely on taxis every evening. It is a big hotel with three blocks, a pool, a spa, and a buffet restaurant. It is not flashy or new, but it is comfortable and easy to get around once you know your way.
We booked two classic rooms and were upgraded to superior on arrival. Handy if it happens to you, but do not count on it.
Official check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 12pm. We arrived late, after 9pm, and left around 10am, so timing was never an issue for us, but worth knowing if you are planning your day around it.
We went room only rather than paying for breakfast, since there are plenty of breakfast options within walking distance of the hotel.
How To Get There
The hotel sits right by the Night Bazaar, less than five minutes on foot. The old city is about a 20 minute walk if you fancy stretching your legs, or a short taxi ride if little legs are tired. There are two 7-Eleven shops close by, a McDonald’s nearby, and Big C is within walking distance if you need to stock up on snacks or supplies.
At night, stalls pop up right around the hotel, and there are a few smaller night markets on top of the main Night Bazaar itself. You do not need to go far to find something for dinner or a browse.

Where To Stay: Room Types And Layout
The rooms are spacious but dated. Think older furniture and a bit of wear, not a fresh renovation. If space matters more to you than a shiny finish, it still works well for a family.
We stayed in Block C. There are two lifts you can use, one by the main lobby and one by the side entrance, which we think is really the group lobby for tour buses. The side entrance lift is the easier of the two if your room is in Block C, it gets you there far more directly than taking the main lobby lift and walking round from there.
The side entrance itself might close around 10pm, though we are not certain of the exact time. Even then, you can still reach that same lift by walking through from the main lobby, so it is worth using regardless of the hour.
We had two separate rooms for the kids and us. They were not interconnecting, but they were close by on the same floor. Looking at the floor plan afterwards, the hotel does have interconnecting rooms available, so it is worth asking for one of these when you book if you want the rooms to link up directly.
We paid around ฿3,500 a night for two rooms, using an offer that gave 50% off the second room. Worth keeping an eye out for that deal if you also need two rooms.

Things To Do
The pool is on the small side but it was never busy while we were there, which the kids appreciated. No queuing for a float or fighting for space.
The hotel has a spa and a tour counter. We did not try either, so we cannot say how good they are, but they are there if you want to book something without leaving the hotel.
A lovely surprise from the hotel, they decorated the bed for my wife birthdays during our stay.
Food And Dining
Dinner at the hotel is an Asian buffet, priced at ฿350 for adults and ฿175 for children, with hotel guests getting 15% off. Most of the buffet is precooked and a fair amount of it is spicy or a little spicy, so worth knowing if you have younger kids who cannot handle heat. There are a few live cooking stations where food is made fresh, which the kids liked watching.
Water, tea, and coffee are included. You can also order cocktails or go for free flow soft drinks if you want. On Saturdays the hotel puts on pizza and a chocolate fountain, which is worth timing your visit around if your kids are anything like ours.
Chocolate hour runs from 4pm to 5pm, but the choice is smaller than the one we tried at the sister hotel in Bangkok. Still a nice treat after a day out, just do not expect the same variety.
Tips For Families
🧳 Ask for Block C if you want a quieter lift close to your room, it makes a real difference with kids in tow. The side entrance nearby shuts at night, so once it is closed we found it easier to come in through the main lobby anyway.
🧳 Ask about interconnecting rooms when you book if you want your rooms to link up rather than just being close by.
🧳 There are two laundry services nearby. We used Miss Laundry, which charges ฿50 per kilo. Drop off before 9am and you can collect after 6pm. They close at 10pm. The same place also rents motorbikes and books tours, handy if you need either while you are there.
🧳 If your kids do not like spicy food, check the buffet stations before loading their plates, since a lot of it has some heat.
